Barcelona – Old and New

Barcelona, old and new

I was reviewing some of my images today in prep to finish my Italian cruise post and re-found this one.

I was running across a pedestrian bridge and all the overlap between old and new struck me.

Cervezas y Café Americano

By the numbers… I just began my 20th hour in transit home from Spain. Doing stretches in the second airport of the trip and, while I wish more than ever I had set my literary with direct international flights, I still keep thinking one thing: this is completely worth it.

4 cities in 2 countries visited over 10 days. 1 work trip.

I can’t believe how lucky I was to be paid to take this journey. Yes, I worked. I worked quite hard actually, with a 16-hour final day. I was sucked back into my “old” life as a Production Manager… but this time I was on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean. On balance, not a bad life and it was educational to see what working while traveling felt like. I need more time to think about that and digest that trip but I was able to take 2 days in Barcelona before embarking on the Epic and that will be this post.

I was incredibly nervous traveling to Spain. This was the first time I traveled internationally alone. And the last time I went to a Spanish-speaking nation I kept trying to use my limited French. And I had little time to prepare. And I had life and school-work running right up to my departure and didn’t have the time and energy to really think about it. And And And…

On Patience

Well so much for my resolution to blog every week (not counting my book posts). “Best laid plans” and “good intentions” and all that.

I have both my Vermont and NYC blogs begun but not completed and a massive amount of schoolwork to finish before I leave the country (?!) a week from today. Oh my day ‘job’ of niece-nanny has been keeping me fairly occupied.

32 Flavors and then some…

Today is my birthday. I have somewhat of a history of traveling on my birthdays and yet again I find myself on a plane heading towards the green mountains — I believe it is the 3rd time I’m am making this trip on this date. Vermont to me means family and the trip itself will be a future travelogue post. Today, I thought I’d spend the flight putting on e-paper my thoughts and resolutions for this year as a self-check and motivation to actually stick to them.

And now back…

… to our regularly scheduled program…

In future posts I will be talking more about the eponyms of my blog. It will be part travelogue and part homage to some of my favorite things. I hope people read and enjoy my perspective but I confess, dear reader, I am doing this mostly for me. I have been writing over the last few months and it feels good. So I’m going to roll out some of what I have written to the webs (or what I’m reconstructing that I have written after hard drive failure) to see if that feels good too.

You’ll not find a big personal statement or picture here yet. I kinda like my anonymity for now. Feel free to reach me through the comments section (“Ask Me Anything”) with the great caveat that you are welcome to ask but I might choose not to answer.

Keep Reading. Keep Drinking. Keep Enjoying.
