it’s so easy!

Untitled

All the others make it sound so easy.

Just follow the steps.

Learn.

Fail.

Grow.

Do.

Achieve.

That simple right?

Wrong.

It isn’t easy.

The voices in your head shouting you down are loud.

The distractions in your life taking you away from what you think you should be doing are shiny.

The people in your life that don’t get it and dissuade you are many.

Our own blocks and emotions are strong and have more effect than all the others combined.

The steps might be simple but the path isn’t easy.

Stay strong my friend.

Working Out Works for Me

I got on a treadmill about 2 years ago and couldn’t run a full mile. I was shocked.

I had a mental image of myself as a physically fit person which shattered with the panting, sweating reality. This state of being needed to change both for my body and my spirit.

I was carrying a few extra vanity pounds but (thanks 5th floor walk-up) I was not overweight. I was, however, obviously not healthy or active. I started with making my sporadic Bikram practice a priority and hitting the treadmill. My only gidea was to get to running a full mile without stopping… that means I’m in good shape right?

Jingle Bell Jogger “Get more fit” is pretty nebulous and thus not at all likely to be successfully achieved.

The turning point came a friend suggested that we sign up for a 4mi run in 4 months time. Yes. A true goal and friendly competition. I can work with that.

By the time the Jingle Bell Jog came and went I was hooked on what exercise could do for my body but also what it does for my mind.

Looking over posts and social media presence over the last year I have been surprised at how much I’ve talked about my fitness goals. I never thought I would be that girl – not even to think about a gym rat – but here I am tweeting about lifting and facebooking about triathloning.

It is common to see bloggers and lifestyle designers working on their bodes as well as their businesses. Pushing physical limits beyond conformity (hello obesity epidemic) seems to come with the territory of breaking other social norms for life path. There is the idea that we just want to be around for a long time, stay up later, do more, so we begin to take care of ourselves physically. There is escapism and vanity but there are two additional big reasons for this correlation.

Why do we do it?
1. The Finish Line
2. The spirit-mind-body triad

Non-Taxing Linkage (4_15_12)

Runners high

Good Afternoon and happy should-be-tax-day-but-it-isn’t-because-as-harry-potter-knows-there-is-no-post-on-Sundays Day!

I feel like I could hurdle mini coopers if not mac trucks today. (maybe a little runner’s high) I’m facing a crazy busy week, have a majore deadline looming and am behind for getting distracted by this shiny and that fun… but I’m in a place where none of of my tasks and to-dos feel daunting.

I’m ever so thankful for the feeling and will continue to ride the crest as long as I am able.

I hope you feel similarly strong and capable today, relishing in the joy that is life. If not, maybe a little linkage (heavy on the inspirational) is just what is needed…

Inspiration

More epic than David versus Goliath, Carlos versus Cancer is by far the most inspiring, kick your ass story that I have read in recent memory. Thoughts go out to this fighter with thanks for the inspiration to fuel that spark within us all.

Dr. Seuss quotes that can change your life.

Bad Barware Bingo – The Rules

Yak Boots at MoMA

We have all rocked terrible looks. Maybe not Yak-hairball-boots with sweats at MoMA bad but if you were alive through the 80s I’m sure you tried to kick it in neon or crimped hair. MC Hammer pants anyone?

As we venture forth on Fridays into the scene of humanity and hilarity that can be found at our drinking establishments I think a little added degree of intentional enjoyment is in order. I give thee:

#badbarwarebingo

After some hilarious “which is worse” conversation regarding Uggs or Crocs with socks, I decided to try to start a little friendly competition. See if you can spot and take a picture of some bad bar fashion. [Read more…]

Confessions of a blogging lurker

Facebook Link

This week I finally became FBO.

Yes, I’m a big nerd that adds the “is” to every status message. If you don’t get it, get off my lawn.

I digress…

It might seem rather silly that posting a link to CBB on my personal FB page counts as accomplishment befitting a post here. It is a pretty big deal to me. It was a joining of lives, real and virtual, and an admittance to all that my life has adjusted course yet again.

What claim have we?

Jeff Goins at Killer Tribes recommended that we fill in this sentence:

I am a _________.

We are supposed to fill in that blank with what it is we want to be. The idea of course is that as we name it and claim it, we indeed become it. There is no magical title fairy that bestows honorariums upon us.

We have to claim the name we want for ourselves.
